Good night, Sweet Prince

For those who know me, my dog Diesel is one of *the* most important things in my Life. I am hesitant to give my dog *THE* Most Important title, as I do not want my husband to be offended. In reality, I think DH pretty much knows, my heart belongs to another man! ggg

It is with much sadness that I share with the world, that my Diesel-dog passed away very suddenly & unexpectedly yesterday. My heart is officially shattered.

He was 11 and was just due to start rehab for his hips, today, ... to keep him mobile & healthy. Being a big dog ... I knew he wasn't going to live another 10 years, but I cooked his food with human grade/organic ingredients, avoided pesticides around the house, gave him tons of love and a couple of beds for his comfort - all this in the hopes that he would gracefully die of old age. 11 wasn't & still isn't *old* to me.

The tumor on his spleen didn't care what I did ... it didn't care how much I loved him. All it did was cause internal bleeding which deteriorated his insides - slowly. I knew Easter Sunday he wasn't overly chipper ... but he sure perked up when the ham came out of the oven!

By Tuesday afternoon, he wasn't shadowing me anymore. His vet was called for an emergency visit and over 5 hours later, his Journey on this planet was beginning to end.

He stayed at the hospital over night to provide for his comfort until I could take him home the following morning. He peacefully passed in our backyard amongst bird song & sunbeams.

Yes ... my world has crumbled. There will be others dogs in my life, after all, there to many out there who need homes. I know Diesel, in his infinite wisdom & love, will guide my husband & I into choosing the *right* ones. There will be only ONE Diesel though ... and I am forever grateful that I had the opportunity to know him & share in his love.

Good Night, baby boy! I will see you again.

He must have truly appreciated those home-cooked meals, Kary. What a lucky boy he was. And how lucky we all were to know him. After all, look at all the funds he raised for Spay Day! Look at all the inspiration and love he gave you!

There must be a special place in Heaven for such a special boy.

May God grant you peace. We send you all our love... We are so very, very sorry for your loss.

Sending you love and (((hugs))) and purrs in sympathy -

Kary, I am so sorry. I know how you loved Diesel. We lost our 14 year old Akita, Lasha, 6 weeks ago and our 13 year old terrier, Buddy, probably isn't long for this world either due to his congestive heart disease. I hope Lasha was there to welcome Diesel!

Knotty, I am truly sad for you. Losing your best friend is one of the toughest things we go through. Sending hugs up the coast to you.

Knotty...two short months ago I was where you are now. We felt exactly like you did about Diesel with our beloved Amber. There will NEVER be another dog like her but we will go on to love others.

Don't all of the years you had together more than make up for the pain you are feeling now? Again, sorry for you loss.

My thoughts are with you, Kary - I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet. But it sounds like he had a wonderful life with you and I sure enjoyed following him through your blog. Take care.

Such a beautiful tribute to a very special being.
Diesel will be around :)

Sending love and comfort in this time of need, and that all your thoughts and memories are filled with love and joy, and hopes for the future that Diesel will be safely bringing you more hearts to love and care for.

{{{{hugs}}}} It sounds like Diesel had a wonderful life with you. I am so sorry for your loss. Two years ago our dog died in her sleep between 4 & 7 a.m. She woke us up at 4, I think, to say goodbye, went in the living room and passed away. It was a horrible shock. After we healed a bit, we found a beautiful dog to help fill our hearts again from the Humane Society. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Kary, I'm so sorry to read of Deisel's passing. I know it's hard to lose such a close family member. I do know, though, that Deisel moved on to make room for another little life who needs you more than Deisel did.

Hugs and more hugs to you.

I am so sorry, I just came across your blog - albeit, a week late - so sorry to hear about Diesel. Isn't it amazing how much our pets become such an important of our lives. How lucky you are to have found another dog to fill your home with love. He looks so gentle - I am sure you will give him the best of care. Again, so sorry about Diesel.
